Getting Started

Prerequisites

Local Development

  1. Fork and clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME/AWSCertificationsWiki.git
cd AWSCertificationsWiki
  1. Install MkDocs and the Material theme:
pip install mkdocs-material
  1. Start the local dev server:
mkdocs serve

This starts a live-reloading server at http://127.0.0.1:8000 — changes you make to markdown files will appear automatically.

  1. Build the static site:
mkdocs build --strict

The --strict flag treats warnings as errors, ensuring a clean build. Output goes to the site/ directory.

Making Changes

  1. Edit the relevant markdown file under docs/
  2. Run mkdocs serve to preview your changes
  3. Run mkdocs build --strict to verify the build
  4. Commit and push to your fork
  5. Open a pull request

Style Guide

  • Use Material theme admonitions: !!! tip, !!! warning, !!! note, !!! info, !!! danger
  • Use []() markdown links with descriptive text — never raw URLs
  • Prefer internal wiki links (e.g. [Vouchers](vouchers-discounts.md)) over external Reddit links when a wiki page exists
  • Keep pages focused and avoid duplicating content from other pages
  • Add a "Related Pages" section at the bottom of major guide pages
  • Use consistent heading hierarchy: ##, then ###, then ####

Before Submitting

  • Verify the site builds with mkdocs build --strict
  • Check that all internal links resolve correctly
  • Ensure no broken admonitions (use !!! not > [!)
  • Review for consistent formatting with existing pages
